About this tour

Although it’s best known as cycling heaven, we believe that everyone should be able to experience the incredible beauty of the Shimanami Kaido. If you’d like to leave the city behind and head out to experience rural Japanese life but worry that cycling for a day or more might be a little tough, then we think this is the tour for you.

This is a 2-day tour but can be shortened or extended based on your needs. You will take a private taxi out onto the Shimanami Kaido, moving from island to island by a mixture of bridges and ferries, exploring some of the fascinating culture (temples, castles, museums) and spectacular nature (mountain viewpoints, beaches, rivers) that we have here. We don’t follow a strict schedule but provide you with information about the area so that you choose where you would like to go and what you would like to experience. In that way, the route is negotiated and tailored to your needs.

Your hotel will be a traditional Japanese inn serving wonderful local cuisine. We will arrange everything for you, from accommodation to the taxi. We can also help you rent bikes if you want to cycle across one of the islands. We will provide you with information about the area a week or so before the tour, so you have lots of time to prepare. We’re here to make sure you see the real Japan and have a truly wonderful experience in this beautiful area.

itinerary

1 nights/2 days

Day 1: Meet at Onomichi Station and take a taxi over to the first island. On Day 1, There are plenty of things to see – mountain-top temples, remote beaches, museums about the pirates who controlled these waters in days gone by. After exploring the islands, we’ll make our way to your accommodation for a dinner of local seafood.

Day 2: After a traditional breakfast, we’ll travel across another islands visiting some of the sights and places of interest. Again, there is lots to see here, with shrines, beautiful seascapes, and museums. At the end of the day, we’ll cross the final bridge to Imabari Station, the end of the Shimanami Kaido. We’ll finish at Imabari station (or Onomichi station)
