The third day on the bike sees us climb into the mountains to visit an historic temple and stay in a pilgrims lodge. From there we head deeper into the mountains to the head of an incredible gorge. We then trace the crystal clear Nyodo River as it meanders towards the prefectural capital, Kochi City. We stay in the city centre and visit a popular street-food market for dinner – one of our favourite places on Shikoku. On the bike the next day, hopefully with a clear head, we have a climb to the evocative Iya Valley – this is challenge day! It was here that the Heike warriors built bridges from vines to evade pursuing armies. Tough cycling but world-class views. Refreshed, on the last day we cycle out of the valley and on towards Konpirasan, one of the landmarks of the island. A lively atmosphere and beautiful views from its hillside location, it’s a fitting end to our journey to the highlights of Shikoku.

The cycling is led by an experienced local guide and there will also be a support van with a mechanic, drinks, and snacks. We’ll introduce you to our secret spots and great roads – places that we’ve found from our many years of experience exploring this area and talking to the people who live here. We’ve chosen accommodation in beautiful locations. For example, you will stay on the hills of the Iya Valley in a traditional Japanese Inn surrounded by nature.

You will be fully supported. We take care of all bookings and luggage transfers. The support van will always be close by in case we have any trouble. This all means that you can relax and focus on having a great time as you journey through spectacular scenery and historic towns. We can arrange for a cross/hybrid bikes but e bike/road bike rental is additional. You could always bring your own bike if that’s an option.
